Ibn al-Haitham, jnown to the West as Alhazen, was the greatest of the mediaeval Arabic authors on optics. His work was one of the major sources for Witelo whose Thesuarus on Optics became one of the standard mediaeval reference works. An Italian translation of Alhazen may have provided one of the direct inspirations for the advent of linear perspective. A.I. Sabra has produced an authotitative English translation and edition of the first books.
