Augmentation or increase in size of a perspectival image occurs in a regular perspectival situation when a) the object is moved towards the picture plane, b) the picture plane is moved towards the object or, c) the point of sight is moved away from the picture plane. Augmentation of the perspectival image also occurs in cases where an object is positioned between the point of sight and the picture plane, as for instance, the tropic of capricorn in a planisphere projection. Augmentation is the opposite of diminution.
